Farah Larrieux
Port-au-Prince, July 29, 2026.- Farah Larrieux, beneficiary of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS), on Magik 9 this Wednesday, July 29, shared his migratory journey in the United States and the difficulties encountered by many Haitians in their efforts. She believes that the lack of legal and institutional support exposes several migrants to great vulnerability, while the future of the GST for Haitians remains a source of concern.
In his speech, Farah Larrieux explained that his personal experience with the American immigration system was deeply influenced. She referred, in particular, to a first procedure for permanent residence which, in her view, was difficult because of the lack of vocational guidance and assistance.
« Naviguer dans le système d’immigration aux États-Unis est une expérience stressante « , a-t-elle expliqué, soulignant que plusieurs migrants haïtiens ne disposent pas des informations nécessaires pour défendre leurs droits.
According to her, the presence of a lawyer or specialist accompaniment can play a decisive role in migration procedures. She believes that many compatriots face the challenges alone, without knowing the complex demands of the American system.
Farah Larrieux also addressed her commitment to the defence of the GST for Haitians. She claims to have chosen to get involved in this struggle after threats of suppression of the program under Donald Trump's administration.
She says she offered her help to Haitian community organizations engaged in this battle, considering that the defence of the GST is a collective cause that exceeds individual interests.
The GST beneficiary also shared the difficult moments she experienced during her journey, including periods of uncertainty related to her migration status, loss of her work permit and the psychological consequences of this situation.
Today she calls for breaking the prejudices around migration issues and for better support for Haitians facing immigration procedures. For her, accompaniment, education and access to information are essential to enable migrants to better understand their options.
