Panama, March 24, 2026.-Reunited on March 18 and 19, 2026 in Panama City, Haitian representatives and several international partners participated in a high-level conference on maritime and port security in Haiti. On this occasion, the ambassador to the OAS, Joshua Pierre Dahomey stressed the urgency of strengthening coordination, means and collective commitment to address the growing threats in Haitian waters.

Organized by the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism, under the auspices of the Organization of American States (OAS), with the support of Canada, this conference brought together Haitian authorities, international institutions and regional partners.

The main objective is to strengthen the maritime and port security of Haiti, considered a strategic issue in the face of the rise of illicit traffic in the region.

Discussions focused on improving port control, strengthening maritime surveillance capabilities and combating criminal networks operating in Haitian territorial waters. Participants also stressed the need for better coordination between national institutions and international partners.

Several organisations took part in the exchanges, including INTERPOL, the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), alongside United Nations agencies.

For Ambassador Josué Pierre Dahomey, maritime security is now a national priority. He stressed that the stability of Haiti requires a lasting commitment and enhanced cooperation between national and international actors.

The meeting should lead to better operational coordination and strengthening of mechanisms to combat illicit trafficking in arms, drugs and other forms of transnational crime, in a context of a continuing security crisis.
