Electoral process: Pierre Raymond Dumas doubts the ability of the transition to hold credible elections

Port-au-Prince, August 5, 2026.- Guest of Panel Magik on Magic 9, Wednesday, August 5, 2026, columnist Pierre Raymond Dumas expressed serious reservations about the ability of the transitional authorities to lead a credible electoral process. He believes that the strong presence of political actors in the government, the risks of favouritism and the accumulated delays undermine confidence in the upcoming elections.

Pierre Raymond Dumas has shown his scepticism about the possibility of organising transparent elections under the current political transition. Guest of Panel Magik, broadcast this Wednesday on Magic 9, he said that the composition of the government has concerns about the impartiality of the electoral process.

According to him, several members of the executive are from political parties or groups with electoral interests. This situation, he believes, can create a climate of distrust and promote conflicts of interest in the organisation of elections.

Pierre Raymond Dumas recalled that, in the past, some transitions enjoyed a more marked political balance. In his view, the current context was different and called for more safeguards to ensure the credibility of the elections.

The columnist also criticized the appointments of political leaders to strategic positions in public administration. It considers that this practice may influence the electoral process, despite the circulars issued to recall the duty of neutrality of State officials.

On the electoral calendar, Pierre Raymond Dumas does not exclude a further postponement. He believes that security challenges, delays in preparations and organizational challenges could prevent the implementation of announced deadlines.

For the analyst, the priority must be to create the conditions for free, credible and inclusive elections, in order to build public confidence in democratic institutions.
