Port-au-Prince, August 5, 2026.- On Tuesday, August 4, the Ministry of Environment (MdE) organized a national workshop on the review of the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS), the main mechanism for monitoring Haiti's commitments under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Discussions focused on sustainable land management, the state of natural resources and actions to address land degradation.
The meeting brought together representatives of public institutions, national experts, technical and financial partners and civil society organisations. Participants reviewed, inter alia, the results of the Integrated Landscape and Land Management Project (IPSLM), as well as the process of collecting, consolidating and validating data integrated into the PRAIS report.
Discussions also focused on ways to improve the quality of national reporting and to strengthen coordination among institutions involved in natural resource management. The workshop also presented a Reforestation Guide to accompany forest landscape restoration initiatives and promote practices adapted to the country's ecological realities.
In the face of continued soil erosion, deforestation and the increasing effects of climate change, strengthening environmental monitoring mechanisms appears to be a strategic issue for Haiti. The recommendations of the workshop should contribute to improving sustainable land management and better guiding policies to combat desertification.
