Geneva, May 25, 2026.- The Haitian Minister of Public Health and Population, Bertrand Sinal, was elected Vice-President of the Executive Council of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the region of the Americas, this Monday, May 25, 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, at the opening of the 159th session of this governing body of the organization.
This two-day session brings together Member States around the main directions of global health policy. It follows the work of the 79th World Health Assembly, held from 18 to 23 May 2026.
The election of Dr Bertrand Sinal marks a new presence of Haiti in a strategic body to oversee the implementation of WHO decisions and priorities in the field of international public health.
This designation comes in a global context marked by many health challenges, including strengthening health systems, managing health emergencies and reducing inequalities in access to care.
