Port-au-Prince, March 27, 2026.- The Haitian authorities are preparing to take a new step in the security of downtown Port-au-Prince. Approximately 400 members of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd-H) will be deployed by mid-April to consolidate the positions recently taken up by the armed groups.
According to information confirmed by Government sources in the Newlist, these soldiers will have the primary task of stabilizing and securing strategic areas, including the heights, often used as checkpoints by armed gangs.
These soldiers, who have recently returned from training courses in Mexico and France, have also received additional training on the national territory. They are currently pursuing shooting exercises at the Vertières base, located in Tabarre, in preparation for their deployment.
For several days, the Haitian National Police (HNP), supported by a task force under the Primature, has been conducting intensive operations in the city centre. Despite some progress, however, the security forces are struggling to maintain long-term control over the reconquered areas.
On a visit this week to the Vertières base, the Minister of Defence, Mario Andrésol, confirmed the imminent deployment of the military alongside the PNH, stating that this intervention is part of the rules of engagement in force.
Moreover, according to the same sources, this operation should be accompanied by the forthcoming acquisition of new armoured vehicles to support forces engaged in the field.
