Port-au-Prince, February 12, 2026.- On Wednesday, February 11, the Ministry of Interior and Territorial Communities (MITT) proceeded to the official installation of a new Municipal Commission to administer the capital on a provisional basis until the next elections. The ceremony, held at the Ministry's headquarters in Delmas 60 in the presence of senior officials of the public administration, takes place in a critical urban context where the authorities promise to be effective and rehabilitated.

Designated by decree of 7 February 2026 under the authority of the Council of Ministers and Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the Commission consists of Yves Andrel Salomon, appointed President, assisted by Dorothé Ignace Morel and Esther Cinéas as members.

During the ceremony, the Director General of MICT, Pierre Canisius Guignard, stressed the need to meet the pressing expectations of the population and to restore the institutional credibility of the town hall. The authorities also stressed the importance of paying special attention to vulnerable populations, including those living in camps for internally displaced persons.

Pending the holding of the next municipal elections, the Municipal Commission will have to ensure day-to-day management and drive a dynamic of administrative recovery. The MICT promises technical and institutional support in order to strengthen the performance of the town hall of Port-au-Prince in this transitional phase.
