At a hearing in the United States on the termination of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Haitians, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer admitted under oath that deportations would have already resumed without the preliminary decision of Judge Ana C. Reyes. The Trump administration appealed this decision, considering that it causes the « irreparable damage » Government.
Speaker on Magik9 this Wednesday, February 11, Mr. Eddy Laguerre reported that the agent of the ICE claimed that, without the provisional order of Judge Reyes, the expulsions of Haitian nationals would have been revived, especially against those who had already received a letter of deportation and whose only legal protection remains the GST. This declaration, made under oath, underlines the imminence of the measures envisaged by the migration authorities.
According to Mr. Laguerre, the judge asked for detailed details on the transactions the government intends to undertake in the event of an actual GST termination. However, the interviewee reportedly refused to answer a question about a possible increase in the deployment of the immigration police to areas of high Haitian concentration, particularly in southern Florida and Springfield. A new hearing is scheduled this Thursday for the continuation of the case.
At the same time, the Trump administration appealed the federal judge's preliminary decision and filed a motion for reconsideration, arguing that the temporary retention of the GST would prejudice the U.S. government. The fate of thousands of Haitians living in the United States remains suspended at the end of this judicial battle.
