Port-au-Prince, June 10, 2026.- At the beginning of the 2026 cyclonic season, the Directorate General of Emergency Preparedness (DGPC) presented on Tuesday, June 9, the weather forecasts and preparedness measures implemented by the National Disaster Risk Management System (NDRMS). The authorities invite the population to prepare for a season that could still expose Haiti to major risks.

Meeting at the National Emergency Operations Centre (COUN), the DGPC indicated that the 2026 cyclonic season could record between 8 and 14 named tropical storms, including 3 to 6 hurricanes and 1 to 3 major hurricanes. Although this activity is announced as slightly lower than in recent years, the authorities recall that the vulnerability of the Haitian territory to floods, landslides and violent winds remains high.

In order to reduce the impact of possible weather events, the institutions of SNGRD have announced the strengthening of several preventive measures. These include rehabilitation work to reduce floods, strengthening emergency operations centres and response teams, continuing training of volunteers and mobilizing financial resources to accelerate disaster response.

Civil Protection stresses that risk management is not solely the responsibility of public institutions. She urged every citizen to follow up on information disseminated by official sources, to draw up a family emergency plan and to take the necessary steps before a cyclone threatened the country. « An n prepare n avan li twò ta « recalls the institution.
