Port-au-Prince, May 28, 2026.- As the 2026 cyclonic season approached, fifty relief workers from the Northern Department received, from May 18 to 23, in Cap-Haitien, specialized training organized within the framework of the PHENIX project. Funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and implemented by Expertise France, this initiative aims to improve the preparedness and coordination of emergency response in Haiti.
Thirty Civil Protection Brigadier and twenty firefighters from several northern municipalities participated in this intensive training session focusing on personal relief, risk prevention, warning systems, community coordination and emergency management.
In a context marked by Haiti's vulnerability to natural disasters, this training acts as strategic support to strengthen the operational capacities of local relief teams before the start of the cyclonic season.
Through the PHENIX project, France reaffirms its commitment alongside Haiti to the development of a more efficient, structured and professionalised disaster response system.
Participants also had an opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by relief services in northern municipalities, including lack of facilities, difficulties in accessing certain areas and the need for better coordination among local actors.
This initiative is part of a cooperative effort to better prepare communities for natural hazards and to reduce the human and material impacts of disasters.
