Electoral process: Jean Renel Sénatus warns about duplicates and calls for criminal sanctions

Former Senator Jean Renel Sénatus

Port-au-Prince, September 7, 2026.- Invited this Monday, September 7 to the show Panel Magik de Magik 9, the former Senator Jean Renel Sénatus has sounded the alarm about the alleged irregularities in the registration process of parties and voters. In particular, he referred to cases of duplication, fraudulent use of identity and persons registered on behalf of several political structures, considering that such anomalies should be verified and, where appropriate, prosecuted.
In particular, he mentioned cases of duplication, fraudulent use of identity and persons registered on behalf of several political structures. The Committee considered that these anomalies should be subject to verification and, where appropriate, prosecution.

According to Jean Renel Sénatus, some political parties or groups have already joined other structures. He also cites situations where individuals are members of one political structure while being presented as members of another. For him, these practices raise serious questions about the reliability of the data used in the electoral process.

Sénatus relies in particular on figures mentioned relating to the registration process. According to him, several million cases were rejected for problems of concordance between name, national identification number or sex, as well as an equally large number of cases considered duplicates. The Committee considers that these data are substantial enough to warrant an in-depth investigation into the quality of the registry and the monitoring mechanisms.

Jean Renel Sénatus also considers that the usurpation of identity and the use of false identity must not remain without consequences. He pointed out that discussions were under way within the Forum of Nine Political Structures to identify the legal means by which perpetrators of such practices could be punished. In his view, when fraud is established, legal proceedings should be instituted.

The former senator also stressed the need to distinguish between administrative errors and deliberate fraud. It calls on the institutions responsible for the electoral process to put in place mechanisms to verify registrations, identify duplicates and guarantee the uniqueness of each elector. In its analysis, the credibility of the upcoming elections will depend largely on the reliability of these controls.

Finally referring to the political situation, Jean Renel Sénatus states that the Forum of the nine political structures is working on a proposal for a « transition recovery »including restoring security and improving the electoral process. For him, the organization of credible, transparent and unchallenged elections necessarily involves addressing the problems identified in the electoral system.
