Bloody Offensive of "Jeff Gwolwa" and "Chen Mechan": The Plain again with fire and blood

The conflict broke out following a gang dispute over the control of illegal toll stations in the area. Jeff Gwolwa, leader of the Canaan gang, claims the exclusive right to racket users. This thirst for control has transformed residential areas into war zones, where houses are burned down systematically.

Horror has a face. In Duvivier, a young mother witnessed the execution of her husband, a taxi moto driver, burned alive in front of their three children. Further on, a high school student named Maxi mourns her sick mother: she could not leave their house before the bandits set fire to it. On the road to the airport, a man about 50 years old, traumatized and alone, threatens to commit suicide in the street.

On Monday 11 May, the situation is critical in the vicinity of « Three Hands ». Hundreds of displaced people sleep in the beautiful star, often barefoot, without food or identity documents. In protest against the absence of the police, the victims are currently blocking the road to the international airport to demand an intervention.

The economic sector is severely affected. An employee of Rhum Barbancourt was shot dead during the clashes. The CEO, Delphine Gardère, strongly criticized the indifference of the state. According to her, the warnings and requests for relief from companies in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac remain unanswered while pregnant women and children are massacred.

Despite this apocalypse climate, de facto Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé maintains his agenda. In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, he reiterated that elections could be held at the end of 2026. A speech that seems totally disconnected from the reality of citizens who, at this very moment, are simply struggling not to die burned in their homes.
