Less than two days before World Environment Day, celebrated on 5 June, the Department of the Northwest Department of the Ministry of the Environment (DDNO-MdE) intensified its awareness-raising and mobilization activities in several communes of the Department on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. This approach is part of the national theme: « Action now to transform the future « , focusing on citizen engagement in addressing climate challenges.
On the ground, environmental authorities are multiplying initiatives through Community exchanges, sectoral tables and training sessions for teachers, journalists and local actors. These meetings, held in Saint-Louis du Nord and Port-de-Paix, addressed the environmental vulnerabilities of municipalities, the protection of coastal ecosystems and the role of different sectors in responding to the effects of climate change. The programme « Environment Fridays « , deployed in schools, reinforces this dynamic of continuous awareness.
To mark World Environment Day, several activities are announced in Port-de-Paix, including an awareness march, a coastal clean-up operation in Haut-Fourneau, the planting of about 500 coconut trees and an educational ecotourism activity in the mangrove. Through these initiatives, the DDNO-MdE intends to consolidate environmental education, encourage citizen participation and promote the sustainable preservation of the natural resources of the Northwest.
