Port-au-Prince, August 20, 2026.- The Haitian filmmaker Arnold Antonin presented, this Thursday, August 20, at the restaurant Vivano Coin des artistes, his new documentary entitled « Mototaxi « , dedicated to the reality of motorcycle transport in Haiti. Through the testimonies of motorcyclists, police, researchers, doctors, traders, motorists and victims of accidents, the film explores the risks, difficulties and challenges associated with the development of these vehicles in the country.
The documentary first focuses on the conditions in which mototaxis drivers operate. Three of them allow the director to enter a largely informal sector, which has become an essential means of displacement for a large part of the population. Arnold Antonin presents these motorcyclists as entrepreneurs who seek to earn a living in a context where economic opportunities remain limited.
« Mototaxi » also emphasises the consequences of this activity. Accidents, risky behaviour, difficult traffic and lack of effective supervision are a problem that particularly affects young people. According to the film's synopsis, motorcycle accidents are associated with an average of 10 deaths and 50 injuries per day in Haiti.
Beyond this, Arnold Antonin wants to open a debate on the responsibilities of authorities, drivers and other road users. The film also questions the mechanisms that maintain the disorder in transport and examines the experiences of other countries in order to identify ways to better frame this type of transport.
The great first of « Mototaxi » is scheduled for 27 August at 3.30 p.m. in the Franck Hall of Hotel Montana. With this documentary, Arnold Antonin intends to raise awareness about a reality that has become central in Haitian cities and encourage a reflection on road safety, the organization of transport and the protection of users.
