Port-au-Prince, February 20, 2026.- Faced with the health risks identified in the water consumed in Port-au-Prince, the Ministry of Trade and Industry convened on Friday, February 20, an interinstitutional workshop at Hotel Montana. The aim was to examine the worrying results of a study on drinking water in the metropolitan area and to coordinate the interventions of the various ministries and institutions concerned in order to develop a common strategy guaranteeing health security and consumer protection.

The results of the study conducted by the Directorate of Quality Control and Consumer Protection (DCQPC) between August 2025 and January 2026 reveal anomalies of concern in the treated and conditioned waters of the metropolitan area. Trade and Industry Minister James Monazard said: « The findings are alarming and show the urgency of coordinated action to protect the population from the health risks associated with drinking water. » The workshop brought together representatives of MSPP, DINEPA, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications, MARNDR and INARHY to develop short- and medium-term response plans.

The Director General of MCI, Panel Paulémont, insisted: « Each department and agency involved must present its measures to ensure effective action and consumer safety. » Discussions focused on strengthening health surveillance and supervision of the conditioned water sector. Minister Monazard announced that an information circular would soon be issued to make decisions public and inform the public. The initiative aims to protect consumers and ensure sustainable access to safe drinking water in accordance with health standards.

The recommendations of the workshop will be forwarded to the Prime Minister, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, for adoption. This initiative now places water quality at the centre of government concerns and aims to secure access to reliable drinking water for all residents of the capital.
