The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé met on Sunday 7 June 2026 to discuss the organisation of the next elections. This meeting comes after several days of intense tensions between the CEP and the government around the electoral decree and the appointment of a director-general within the electoral institution.
At the heart of the discussions was the electoral decree issued on 2 June 2026, as well as the necessary arrangements for free, inclusive, transparent and credible elections. The two sides also discussed the coordination mechanisms necessary to advance the electoral process.
At the end of the meeting, the CEP and the Head of Government agreed to continue the dialogue in order to consolidate the electoral process and settle institutional disputes. The Provisional Electoral Council also reaffirmed its determination to exercise its constitutional mission independently and in accordance with democratic principles.
