The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Government of Canada signed a US$200 million guarantee agreement at a ceremony in Guatemala.
With this guarantee, the IDB will be able to mobilize up to $1 billion in new financing without increasing the capital provided by its shareholders.
Funding will be allocated to two priorities. The first concerns the development of critical mineral value chains to strengthen their transformation and integration into international markets. The second is to finance resilient infrastructure in the transport, energy, water and digital connectivity sectors to better address natural disasters.
IDB President Ilan Goldfajn welcomed an agreement that will strengthen the institution's funding capacity. For its part, Randeep Sarai stressed that this partnership will foster sustainable growth and resilience in the region.
According to the IDB, funded projects will have to meet the institution's environmental, social and governance standards.
