Port-au-Prince, September 4, 2026.- The University of Quisqueya has chosen to devote this Friday, September 4, its traditional reception of new students to a moment of recollection in memory of the victims of the violence in Kenscoff. Bereaved families, local authorities and representatives of several religious denominations took part in the ceremony.

The activity, originally planned as a festive meeting with the new students, was reoriented following the drama in Kenscoff on the night of August 23-24. The Quisqueya University wanted to put the memory of the victims at the heart of this day.

Members of the bereaved families participated in the ceremony alongside representatives of the community of Kenscoff. In particular, bouquets of flowers were deposited in tribute to those killed in this tragedy.

The mayor of Kenscoff, Massillon Jean, was present on this occasion. Several religious representatives also took part in the ceremony, including Reverend Father Roldano Auguste, Pastor Sylvain Exantus, Reverend Father Jean Mary Louis and Mambo Kettia Exantus.

In his speech, the Rector of Quisqueya University, Jacky Lumarque, called on the State to assume its responsibilities in the face of the situation of the people. Religious representatives also expressed their emotion and called on the authorities to act against the insecurity in the country.

The ceremony finally took the form of a collective tribute to the victims and a moment of solidarity with their loved ones. By choosing the recollection rather than the planned festivities, Quisqueya University wanted to record its academic re-entry in a context marked by the memory and pain of the affected families.
