Kenscoff: UN confirms 47 dead after gang attack

The UN confirmed at the meeting on the security situation in Haiti on Friday that at least 47 people were killed and 22 injured, including three boys and two girls, during the recent gang offensive in Kenscoff. According to Marta Hurtado, spokesman for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, this attack illustrates the continued violence of armed groups against the Haitian people, reports the Miami Herald.

Armed men attacked several areas and abducted dozens of people. Police and local brigade members attempted to retaliate, pending the arrival of reinforcements and armoured vehicles, after several hours of fighting. The offensive revives the questions about the reduction of the security system, despite the warnings about the vulnerability of the municipality.

Regularly attacked since January 2025, Kenscoff had already experienced an offensive that killed up to 105 people, according to Mayor Massillon Jean. In the face of persistent threats to several municipalities, the United Nations calls for strengthening the protection of civilians and the capacity of security forces.
