Justice, democracy and elections: the government accelerates judicial reform

Port-au-Prince, June 27, 2026.- Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé chaired a strategic workshop in Port-au-Prince on Friday, June 26, bringing together judges from the two specialized judicial hubs, the highest judicial authorities and several international partners. The discussions focused on strengthening the capacity of the judiciary, as presented by the Executive as a prerequisite for holding credible elections and restoring confidence in institutions.

The Haitian government is continuing its efforts to strengthen the judicial system. Gathered around the judges of the two specialized judicial centres, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Mr Patrick Pélissier, conducted a strategic workshop on the operationalization of these structures and on the treatment of priority cases.

The discussions also focused on strengthening the institutional framework of the specialized centres and on the resources needed to ensure more effective, independent and credible justice.

During the meeting, the technical and financial partners renewed their commitment to support the government's reforms. This support includes capacity-building of judges, training of forensic doctors and rehabilitation of the Forensic Institute.

In his speech, the Head of Government praised the work of the judiciary and reaffirmed his commitment to improving their working conditions and remuneration. He stressed that strong and fully functioning justice is an indispensable prerequisite for democracy, security and the organization of credible elections.

Finally, the Prime Minister assured that his government will continue reforms aimed at restoring citizens' confidence in the institutions and creating the necessary conditions for the forthcoming elections.
