Engineer Patrick Attie
Port-au-Prince, May 14, 2026.- In an exclusive interview granted to journalist Nancy Roc for « AlterPresse » and published on May 14, the Haitian engineer and entrepreneur, Patrick Attie, launches a clear warning: Haiti can no longer remain a spectator in the face of the global rise of artificial intelligence.
While the UN has just established an independent International Scientific Group on AI to assess the risks, impacts and opportunities of this technology, Patrick Attie believes that artificial intelligence is now a matter of power, security and national sovereignty.
« Le pays qui n’aura pas de stratégie ne sera pas simplement en retard : il deviendra dépendant « , prévient-il.
According to him, AI is already transforming the economy, health, education, finance, security, public administration and even military conflicts. In this context, the absence of a national strategy exposes Haiti to an increasing technological dependence on the major powers and multinationals of digital.
Patrick Attie also points out the structural backwardness of the country: unstable electricity, insufficient Internet, institutional weakness, lack of specialized training and lack of adequate public policies. He recalls, however, that local initiatives, particularly at ESIH, prove that there are still skills in Haiti.
The engineer advocates a realistic national strategy around cybersecurity, artificial intelligence training, national data protection and the progressive integration of AI into public services.
Pour lui, l’enjeu dépasse largement la technologie : « Ignorer l’IA aujourd’hui, ce n’est pas seulement rater une révolution technologique. C’est abandonner une partie du pouvoir politique à ceux qui la maîtrisent déjà « .
