Haiti: OAS strengthens its partnership on security and elections

Washington, August 11, 2026.- The Organization of American States (OAS) reaffirms its willingness to strengthen its cooperation with Haiti following the presentation of the credentials of Catherine Pognat, its new representative in the country, Monday, August 10.

According to OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin, this stage marks a new phase in relations between the two parties. The aim, he said, was to implement the Organization's road map and to support the Haitian authorities in their national priorities.

Security, the organisation of elections, the development and strengthening of institutions are among the main areas of support, he continued. The OAS intends to support initiatives aimed at promoting the stability of the country, strengthening institutions and contributing to the democratic process.

In this perspective, Ramdin announced a visit alongside a delegation of international partners to Haiti from August 16 to 19. This trip should enable further exchanges with the Haitian authorities and deepen international cooperation for the stability and development of the country.
