Port-au-Prince, July 10, 2026.- The Force de répression des gangs (FRG) continues its rise with the arrival of 300 Sri Lankan officers in Port-au-Prince. This new contingent brings to six the number of countries contributing to the mission, which aims to support the Haitian National Police in the fight against armed groups and the restoration of security.
A contingent of 300 Sri Lankan officers landed in Port-au-Prince on the night of 8-9 July 2026 to join the Gang Repression Force. This deployment is part of the process of gradually strengthening this international mission, authorised by the UN Security Council.
According to mission sources, additional contingents are expected in the coming weeks to increase the operational capabilities of the FRG. In particular, Ivorian officers are expected to join the force next month, while new equipment will also be delivered.
The FRG now includes staff from El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Chad. Ultimately, the mission plans to deploy 5,500 uniformed and 50 civilian personnel to support the Haitian National Police, protect strategic infrastructure and promote the return of security.
This increase in strength comes as armed groups continue their attacks in several parts of the country. The FRG claims to continue its patrols and operations on the ground in order to create the necessary conditions for the restoration of law and order and the organisation of the next elections.
