The Ministry of Tourism announced this Monday, August 17, 2026, that Haiti had been represented on August 12 and 13 at the first Forum of the Americas on Wine Tourism and Gastronomy, held in São Paulo, Brazil. Initiated by Revista ADEGA, a Brazilian publication specializing in wine, gastronomy and wine tourism, in collaboration with UN Tourism, the meeting brought together representatives of the public and private sectors as well as experts from several countries in the region.
The Haitian delegation was led by Sinedie Saintil Dupuy, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism. She spoke at the opening ceremony with representatives of participating countries. Jean Odelin Casseus, member of the cabinet of the minister, was also part of the delegation, while Youri Emmanuel, Consul General of Haiti in São Paulo, joined him on the spot. The exchanges focused on gastronomic and wine tourism, its economic potential and its role in the development of the territories.
This participation comes as the Haitian tourism sector goes through a particularly difficult period. Over the past decade, political instability, insecurity, infrastructure degradation and the economic crisis have greatly affected tourism activity and the country's image as a destination. Under these conditions, the revival of Haitian tourism remains linked to the improvement of security, infrastructure and the economic environment, indispensable for the sustainable recovery of the sector.
