Jérémie, July 2, 2026.- The Ministry for the Status of Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF) inaugurated, on Wednesday, July 1, in Jérémie, the Women's House of the Greater Anse, a centre intended to welcome, protect and accompany women and girls who are victims of gender-based violence.
The ceremony was attended by Minister Pédrica Saint-Jean, local officials, judicial actors, representatives of women's rights organizations and institutional partners.
This new structure intervenes in a context where violence against women continues to worsen in Haiti. Rape, including mass rape, domestic violence and other forms of abuse, are on the rise in several parts of the country. While the Grand-Anse is less affected by the insecurity of armed groups than other departments, many women still face often killed violence, with limited access to care services and justice.
The Women's House of Greater Anse offers a secure space where survivors can benefit from confidential listening, referral to medical and psychological care, legal support and support for their reintegration and autonomy.
In her speech, Minister Pédrica Saint-Jean recalled that this initiative is part of the government's desire to strengthen women's protection mechanisms across the country. With this inauguration, four Women's Houses are now operational in the departments of the West, Artibonite, Centre and Grand Anse.
« Dwa fanm yo, se dwa moun. Pa gen lapè san jistis pou fanm. Pwoteje fanm, se pwoteje lavni peyi a « , a déclaré la ministre, réaffirmant l’engagement des autorités à lutter contre les violences faites aux femmes et à promouvoir le respect de leurs droits.
