On Monday, July 27, 2026, the Haitian government signed an agreement with the Force de Répression des Gangs (FRG) to define the rules governing its presence and activities in the national territory. The ceremony was held at the Chancellery in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Force. The agreement was initialled by Foreign and Religious Minister Raina Forbin and FRG Special Representative Jack Christofides.
In particular, the document specifies the status, privileges and immunities enjoyed by the FRG in the performance of its mission to support the national security forces. The Haitian authorities see this as an important signal towards the full operationalization of the Force, which will contribute to efforts to improve security, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and support the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
At the conclusion of the signing, both sides stressed the importance of respect for Haitian sovereignty and international law. Jack Christofides assured that the FRG will answer for its actions through the mechanisms of accountability, rejecting any idea of impunity. For the government, the restoration of security remains an essential condition for the return to institutional stability and the organization of future electoral deadlines.
