Port-au-Prince, 9 March.- On 4 March 2026, the Haitian government launched the pilot phase of a project to modernize and strengthen the database of civil servants. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), is being carried out with the support of the National Identification Office (ONI), the Management and Human Resources Office (OMRH) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in order to strengthen administrative control mechanisms and improve the management of state human resources.
Three days after the launch of this pilot phase, the technical teams continue to collect and verify data from public officials. This experimental step is intended to test the operational mechanisms of the device and adjust the technical procedures before progressive deployment at the national level.
In this process, ONI plays a central role in leveraging its expertise in biometric identification. The aim is to ensure a more rigorous identification of civil servants and to ensure better traceability of administrative information, while limiting irregularities in the management of public administration staff.
Through this initiative, the authorities hope to lay the foundations for a centralized and reliable register of State agents. It is presented as a key tool to support the modernization of public administration and enhance transparency in the management of the public service.
