Cette décision, qui inscrit le nom de Donald Trump sur une infrastructure publique de son État d’adoption, provoque de vives réactions aux États-Unis.
Close to his residence in Mar-a-Lago, the airport is frequently used by the American president. His son Eric Trump praised this tribute, believing Donald Trump was the personality « the most deserving » to receive this recognition.
But this initiative also feeds critics. Opponents denounce a form of excessive personalization of public institutions, recalling that Donald Trump becomes the first American president to see an airport bearing his name while still in office.
The change is already the subject of local judicial challenges, while the administrative and visual transition of the new airport has to take place gradually.
