Four organizations signed on August 10, 2026 in Port-au-Prince (West) a collaboration protocol to prepare a national roadmap on responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in Haiti. It is Banj through the ProAI project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, the Internet Society Haiti, the Higher School of Infotronics of Haiti and the Association for Responsible AI.
The Protocol establishes a framework for cooperation among signatories engaged in a sovereign, accountable approach adapted to the country's capacities and constraints.
Two working papers on mapping the national ecosystem of AI and governance of artificial intelligence in resource-limited countries were also presented.
The first production is « mapping » which identifies more than 40 actors around eight pillars, including the public and private sectors, the diaspora, the media and the environment. The document also identifies eight priority sectors for the adoption of AI, including health, agriculture, fintech and education.
The second document provides a reference guide for public decision makers and donors. It favours so-called agile governance based on experimentation, learning and progressive adjustment. The framework includes data governance, institutional capacity-building, prioritizing usage, ethical governance and a monitoring, evaluation and learning mechanism.
Documents remain open for contributions. Interested parties are invited to comment during the period between August and September 2026. Consultations with ecosystem stakeholders should continue until 2027, before the consolidation of contributions and preparation of the national roadmap for 2027-2028.
Launched on 11 March 2026 by the IDB and implemented by Banj, the programme covers three years and consists of four areas: AI training, the ProAI Network, national awareness campaigns and the development of a national roadmap. It includes training at least 125 professionals in skills related to artificial intelligence.
