New York, 5 January 2026.- At a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Monday, 5 January, devoted to the situation in Venezuela, the Permanent Representative of Russia, Vassili A. Nebenzia, strongly condemned the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, as well as the death of dozens of Venezuelan and Cuban civilians, whom he attributed to the United States.
He called on the international community to strongly reject any military interference, warning that inaction would legitimize a challenge to the sovereignty of States and threaten the very credibility of the United Nations.
Russia finally expressed its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and called for an independent international legal assessment of this act, considering that the American motivations are aimed at controlling Venezuela's resources and maintaining their regional hegemony.
