Washington, February 11, 2026.- US President Donald Trump is about to repeal the « danger assessment » adopted in 2009 under Barack Obama. A founding text that allowed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Presented by the White House as « the greatest act of deregulation in American history « The measure raises strong scientific and political opposition and paves the way for a major judicial battle.

The Trump administration confirms its intention to reverse this key EPA decision, which recognized six greenhouse gases, including CO2 and methane as hazardous to public health. This regulatory framework allowed emission limits to be imposed on vehicles, trucks and power plants.

Its revocation would end several federal environmental standards and facilitate the relaxation of the rules governing the automotive and energy industries, including coal and oil, which the President openly supported. The White House states that this will reduce costs for consumers, including the price of new cars.

The decision is strongly denounced by scientists, environmental NGOs and several democratic governors. More than 1,000 experts recently pointed out that evidence of human-induced climate change is « unequivocally » and even more alarming than in 2009. Judicial remedies are already announced, and the case could go back to the Supreme Court.

This turnaround occurred when 2025 was one of the warmest years ever recorded and the United States was hit by many climate disasters. For environmentalists, this repeal would be a major blow to US and global climate action.
