Port-au-Prince, April 30, 2026.- Following the rejection of an initial budget of US$250 million by the Executive, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) submitted, on April 28, 2026, a revised version of its financial plan. This new document, prepared with international partners, aims to relaunch a stalled electoral process.
In a note issued on 29 April, the Provisional Electoral Council announced that it had transmitted to the Executive a revised electoral budget, incorporating two scenarios for the next elections.
This revision comes after the government's categorical refusal to adopt the initial budget, estimated at US$250 million, deemed too high in the current context.
The new document is the result of the work of a technical commission comprising senior staff of CEP, as well as representatives of UNOPS, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (UNIH).
According to the institution, the two scenarios proposed correspond to different technical and operational options, allowing the electoral process to adapt to the country's constraints, including financial and security.
At the same time, the CEP indicates that it is working on a revised electoral calendar to guarantee a vote «realistic and credible ». The stated aim is to unblock a situation of stagnation which hinders the return to constitutional order.
Finally, the Provisional Electoral Council reaffirms its commitment to conduct inclusive, impartial and transparent elections, respecting its independence.
