Les Cayes, July 30, 2026.- The Lycée technique agricole de Cance, located in the 5th communal section of Les Cayes, welcomes this year its first cohort of technical baccalaureate students, relying on training focused on practice, entrepreneurship and the exploitation of the agricultural potential of the region. This was revealed by departmental inspector Antoine Gélin Faverdieu on Thursday, July 30, 2026, during an interview granted to Magik 9.
This project was born out of a local initiative before being adopted and supported by the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training, an institutional support that now allows the institution to continue its development in the south of the country.
Located in the town of Cance, 5th communal section of Les Cayes, near the international airport, the establishment has been located in an area known for its high agricultural potential. After a first ministerial visit in September 2023, the development work allowed the official launch of the activities on 23 October of the same year.
This year, twenty-three candidates, including fifteen boys and eight girls, participated for the first time in the agricultural technical baccalaureate. The tests covered both general subjects and professional subjects, supplemented by practical work.
According to Antoine Gélin Faverdieu, training is based on concrete learning. Students learn how to plan agricultural production, manage a nursery, make compost, process agricultural products, protect the environment and market their crops. The aim is to train young people capable of creating their own economic activity while meeting the needs of the agricultural sector.
The inspector also indicated that the school plans to gradually expand its infrastructure, including the construction of specialized laboratories and spaces. In the long run, the project aims to integrate more sectors, including animal production, in order to provide even more comprehensive training.
For school managers, the Cance Technical Agricultural College is a model of vocational training that prepares young people to enter the labour market, pursue higher education or become agricultural entrepreneurs capable of contributing to the country's development.
