Port-au-Prince, April 7, 2026.- Following altercations between drivers and passengers on several public transport routes, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MAST) published, on April 6, 2026, a communiqué setting new rates. This measure concerns in particular the Delmas-Portail Léogâne and Carrefour Aéroport-Pétion-Ville routes, in a context of rising oil prices.

The tensions observed in recent days in public transport have led the authorities to intervene. Repeated altercations between drivers and passengers, especially in some circuits in Delmas and the metropolitan area, prompted the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour to take regulatory measures.

In a press release published on 6 April 2026, the MAST announced a formal adjustment of fares on routes identified as particularly sensitive. According to the Ministry, this decision aims to put an end to conflicts arising from misunderstandings about the new prices applied informally by some drivers.

These tensions stem from the recent rise in oil prices, which came into effect on 2 April, which quickly impacted public transit costs.

From now on, the fare for the Delmas 65 – Portail Léogâne route, via Delmas 32 or Nazon, is set at 90 gourdes. For its part, the Carrefour Aéroport – Pétion-Ville Market circuit, via the Delmas motorway, is set at 75 gourdes.

The Ministry recalls that this intervention is part of its social regulation mission, in order to protect both the interests of users and those of carriers, while restoring a calmed climate in public transport.

In a context of strong economic and social pressure, these adjustments could help to reduce tensions, although the issue of purchasing power remains at the heart of the population's concerns.
