Jacmel, September 1, 2025.- The Haitian cultural sector has been suffering for several years the devastating effects of widespread insecurity that paralyzes the entire country. Despite this tense climate, the cultural group Ballet Grand Soleil de Jacmel celebrated its 34th anniversary on Saturday August 30th through a series of cultural activities under the theme: « In search of light « .
The continuing insecurity in Haiti profoundly disrupts the functioning of cultural structures, hinders artistic activities and endangers national heritage. In this context, Professor Agella Edgard, President of the Ballet Grand Soleil, stressed the importance of the troupe in the enhancement of Haitian culture. He took the opportunity to advocate for the development and implementation of a genuine cultural policy in the country.
The evening was marked by performances by Ballet Grand Soleil and the musical group Marabout Trouba, offering the public a moment of cultural resistance against adversity.
A fact is certain! Insecurity has forced many cultural actors to adapt, by opting for outdoor performances, online initiatives, or self-financing in order to maintain a minimum cultural activity.
It should be noted that this climate of violence has also led to a massive exodus of young people, managers, artists and professionals, dangerously weakening the social, cultural and economic fabric of the country and seriously jeopardizing its future.
