Political Transition: Jonas Coffy accuses the G-10 and Patriotic Congress of blocking the Consensus initiative

Jonas Coffy

Port-au-Prince, March 4, 2026.- Invited on radio Magik9 this Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Jonas Coffy strongly criticized two political groupings that he accuses of having failed the initiative of the Political Consensus for National Recovery. This was intended to appoint a judge to the Court of Cassation as interim president in place of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC), as well as to appoint a new Prime Minister.

According to Mr. Coffy, the G-10 and the Patriotic Congress, led by Jacky Lumarque, were said to have contributed to the collapse of this proposal for an exit from the crisis. He argued that the Patriotic Congress would benefit from the portfolio of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) as part of the ongoing ministerial restructuring, suggesting the existence of political arrangements.

The member of the Political Consensus for National Recovery, who was not a signatory to the Stability Pact and the organisation of the elections, also considered that this agreement could lead to « create more instability » instead of calming the situation. In his view, the proposed mechanisms did not guarantee a credible transition or effective governance.

Jonas Coffy also denounced what he described as bad governance of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, evoking an unsatisfactory record after 15 months at the head of the Primature. It calls for a profound reorientation of the political process in order to restore institutional stability and prepare elections in a climate of confidence.
