Critical situation in Haiti: UNICEF calls for assistance

Meeting this Friday, January 30, 2026, UNICEF Haiti held a strategic meeting with its donors to alert the critical situation of children affected by the humanitarian crisis. Exchanges focused on the scale of needs and the need to strengthen mobilization for the most vulnerable populations.

The deteriorating security and socio-economic environment has led to a marked increase in forced displacement and food insecurity. There are approximately 1.4 million internally displaced persons, including over 741,000 children. In addition, 5.7 million people face acute food insecurity, including 1.2 million children under the age of five, who are at high risk of malnutrition.

In response to this emergency, UNICEF estimates its financial needs at US$256.6 million for the year 2026. These resources are intended to provide vital assistance to 1.7 million people, including 1.2 million children, including through health services, nutrition, access to safe drinking water, cholera prevention and safe learning environments.
