Frédéric Vaval and Emile Pantaléon
Port-au-Prince, August 19, 2026.- The insurance company « Alternative Insurance Company » (AIC) wants to encourage Haitians to better anticipate the risks associated with retirement, death and disability. Guests Wednesday 19 August 2026 at the Magik 9 show, Frédéric Vaval and Emile Pantaléon presented the Pension Insurance Plan (PAR), a collective solution intended mainly for employees. They also stressed the importance of developing a true insurance culture in a country where funeral spending, inflation and inadequate pensions weaken many families.
Preparing for retirement otherwise
According to Emile Pantaléon, the PAR aims to complement, not replace, mandatory retirement schemes. The principle is based on regular contributions from workers and capitalized over several years.
The plan combines retirement savings, death insurance and disability protection. The objective is to enable insured persons to have additional capital at the time of retirement, while benefiting from financial protection in case of a serious event before that age.
« We must come with solutions to different risks, to different problems we have « , explained Emile Pantaléon.
Funeral insurance in the face of Haitian realities
Frédéric Vaval stressed the importance of funeral insurance. AIC reports that it interviewed about 6,000 people across the country to better understand the difficulties faced by families.
In several regions, funerals can cost hundreds of thousands of gourdes. For a family, death can result in significant decapitalization, even when the deceased owns land, livestock or other property.
The funeral insurance product has been a success, but its development continues to face economic difficulties and the ability of households to pay their contributions regularly.
Making insurance a reflex
In particular, both speakers called for better financial and public education. They believe that insurance should not be seen as an unnecessary expense, but as a means of anticipating risks and protecting families.
They also called on policyholders to read their contracts in order to understand the guarantees, exclusions and conditions of coverage.
For the AIC, the challenge now is to make foresight a reflex: to prepare for retirement, to protect your family and to preserve your wealth before an unforeseen event occurs.
