Return of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé: security, stability and regional cooperation at the heart of priorities

Port-au-Prince, February 26, 2026. – Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is back in Haiti this Thursday, February 26, after attending the 50th CARICOM meeting in Saint Kitts and Nevis. During a press briefing at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport Diplomatic Salon, he stressed the importance of CARICOM for Haiti. He also recalled that Haiti is the largest country in the community in terms of population, market and production potential. Son-Aimé stressed the need for the population to support the government in order to ensure security, stability and credible elections, while calling for national unity.

Au cours de la 50e réunion ordinaire de la CARICOM, sous le thème « Aller au-delà des paroles : agir aujourd’hui pour une CARICOM prospère et durable « , le Premier ministre a échangé avec plusieurs dirigeants, notamment le Secrétaire d’État américain Marco Rubio, le Premier ministre jamaïcain Andrew Holness, la Secrétaire générale de la CARICOM Carla Barnett, ainsi que l’Éminente Personnalité de la CARICOM Kenny Anthony. Les discussions ont porté sur la coopération régionale, la sécurité, la relance économique et la stabilisation d’Haïti. Il a souligné la signature du Pacte national pour la stabilité et les élections par plus de 200 partis politiques et organisations comme un signal fort de paix et d’unité.

On the margins of the work, the Prime Minister also discussed the strengthening of international partnerships: with the United Arab Emirates for security and investment, Austria for the award of scholarships to Haitian students, and Finland for assistance of more than $2 million to deal with the humanitarian crisis. He referred to the upcoming reopening of the Haitian Embassy in Kingston and the strengthening of cooperation with Jamaica against illicit trafficking and organized crime, particularly in Port-au-Prince Bay and its environs.

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé reaffirmed his commitment to work with all national and international partners to ensure security, restore confidence and commit the country to sustainable and inclusive development. He recalled that, by pooling efforts, Haiti can move forward and succeed in ensuring free elections in order to choose its leaders according to its will.
