Santi Domingo, 11 February 2026.- Three months and four days after the death of young Stephora Anne-Mircie Joseph, which occurred during an excursion organized by the Leonardo Da Vinci Institute in Santiago, the family lawyers pointed to an unjustified slowdown in the judicial process.

According to Listin Diario, Mr. Miguel Valdemar and Mr. Shesnell Calcaño claim to have requested, as early as 10 December, the extension of coercive measures beyond the three teachers already targeted by the Public Prosecutor's Office. Their request includes the President of the Leonardo Da Vinci Association Inc., the Director of Freddy Núñez and the Hacienda Los Caballos site, where the drama took place.

According to the lawyers, more than two months after the imposition of the measures against three of the four female teachers charged, no decision was taken on these new applications. They denounce a « unjustified procedural delay » and a circulation of the case between different courts, without concrete progress.

The defence now fears a further referral of the case, as the fourth investigating court seized is not competent to deal with the case, which could further prolong the proceedings without a substantive decision, continues the newspaper.
