Cayes-Jacmel, May 16, 2026.- The Haitian government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Technical Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, launched on Thursday, May 14, the EFOSE project in Les Cayes-Jacmel. Funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the programme is to be implemented in several municipalities in the South-East facing food and economic difficulties.

According to the officials, the programme will be carried out over a period of seven years, from 2025 to 2032, in 16 communal sections of the municipalities of Jacmel, Cayes-Jacmel, Marigot and Belle-Anse. The authorities indicate that the project aims, inter alia, to support local agricultural production, diversify the incomes of rural families and strengthen the capacity of communities to respond to recurrent climate and economic crises. More than 24,000 households would be affected by this intervention in the South-East Department.

During the ceremony, several representatives of partner institutions spoke on the objectives and challenges of implementing the project. The Minister of Agriculture, Marcelin Aubourg, stressed the need for coordination between the various structures involved in order to ensure the implementation of the planned activities.

For his part, IFAD Haiti Country Programme Coordinator Ronie Zamor, a remote intervention, stressed the importance of family farming in the economic and social context of the country. The Executive Director of UTE/MEF, Jean-Mary Georges, spoke about the issues of management and decision-making in the implementation of the programme.

The EFOSE project works in a context of increasing food insecurity and vulnerability of rural communities to economic and climate crises. Its implementation in the South-East will have to be monitored in particular through the results obtained on agricultural production, the living conditions of the beneficiary households and the capacity of the institutions concerned to follow up on the announced actions.
