The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs (MAEC) indicates that it is following closely the administrative investigation initiated by the authorities of the Dominican Republic concerning the transport, under conditions deemed inappropriate, of a Haitian national in the province of San Juan. In a press release issued on 25 July 2026, the Haitian Chancellery stated that it had initiated a diplomatic follow-up of this case through its Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
According to the MAEC, Haitian diplomatic and consular representations were mobilized to ensure consular protection, assistance and support of the national concerned, in compliance with international conventions. The Ministry also states that it maintains constant contact with the relevant Dominican authorities in order to monitor the development of the investigation and to ensure strict respect for the rights of the Haitian citizen.
The Ministry also reaffirms its commitment to defend the rights of Haitian nationals living abroad and to continue dialogue with the Dominican authorities. According to the MAEC, this approach is part of a desire to favour bilateral cooperation, mutual respect and institutional mechanisms between Haiti and the Dominican Republic for the treatment of issues of common interest.
