Port-au-Prince, August 4, 2025.- The arrest of former Senator Nenel Cassy on Saturday, August 2, in a restaurant in Petion-Ville, revived the hope of the family of Jacques Pierre Matilus, murdered in February 2021. In a public statement, the victim's relatives say that they are relieved by the progress they see as an essential step towards truth and justice.
They recall that Nenel Cassy was pointed out as the main suspect in this murder in Delmas 40B, and demanded that he be held accountable to the competent judicial authorities.
Jacques Pierre Matilus, former executive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former consul of Haiti in Santiago and respected entrepreneur, was killed under circumstances they described as « barbarians « .
For the family, this arrest represents a glimmer of hope after more than four years of waiting. They want justice finally to be done so that they can begin, with dignity, the mourning of a father, brother, cousin and friend.
