Mexican striker Julián Quiñones
Mexico City, June 11, 2026.- Mexican striker Julián Quiñones became, this Thursday, June 11, 2026, the first player to find the way to the nets at the 2026 World Cup. The Mexican international opened the score in the inaugural match between Mexico and South Africa at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
Born on 24 March 1997 in Magüí Payán, Colombia, Julián Quiñones obtained Mexican nationality in 2023 before officially joining the Mexican selection. Before choosing El Tri, he had evolved with the selections of young people from Colombia.
At the age of 29, Quiñones is currently playing in the Saudi club of Al-Qadsiah, where he became one of the most prolific attackers in the championship. During the 2025-2026 season, he finished the Saudi Pro League's best scorer with 33 achievements in 31 matches.
Versatile, it can play as fore centre, left winger or right winger. His speed, physical power and sense of purpose make him one of Mexico's main offensive assets for this World Cup.
By placing the very first goal of the 2026 World Championship, Julián Quiñones is now making his name in the history of the competition and offering Mexico a dream tournament start in front of its audience.
