Haiti – Elections : L-OPL appoints three candidates to the Senate in the Southeast

On Saturday, 12 September, the departmental coordination of the People in Struggle Organization (OPL) in the South-East organized its primaries for the next senatorial elections. After the election, Sernéus Bertrand, Jonas Colin and Denoil Antenor were selected to wear the party's colours in the department. Six candidates were initially competing, but OPL's national coordinator, Kétel Jean Philippe, withdrew before the vote.

The exercise was attended by representatives of the national management and departmental coordination, as well as delegates from several municipalities. A delegation led by former South Senator Jean Marie Junior Salomon also participated in the event. The results were officially presented by Jean Onel Charles, Vice-Coordinator of the OPL in the South East.

On this occasion, Kétel Jean Philippe welcomed the holding of these primary schools, reaffirming the willingness of the OPL to take part in the next elections. He stressed, however, that security remains, in his view, an indispensable condition for a credible ballot, calling for an environment enabling citizens to vote freely. The leader of the OPL also urged nominated candidates to raise awareness and encourage massive participation in the electoral registration process.
