Haiti at the heart of health debates in Washington: active participation in the 178th Executive Committee of PAHO/WHO

Washington, 16 June 2026.- From 15 to 18 June 2026, health security in the Americas is at the centre of the work of the 178th Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization, held in Washington, D.C. Haiti is represented by a delegation led by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, with the participation of Dr. Boutroce Gally Pierre, departmental health director of the Great Anse, who came to defend the priorities of the Haitian health system.

Meeting from 15 to 18 June 2026, the Member States of PAHO/WHO discuss the broad regional health guidelines, including the Health Risk and Emergency Management Strategy 2026-2031 and the Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance 2027-2031.

Haiti is taking an active part in these discussions through an official delegation led by the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, alongside Dr. Boutroce Gally Pierre, Departmental Director of Health of the Greater Anse. Its presence makes it possible to integrate the reality of decentralized health services into international debates.

In the course of the discussions, the Haitian delegation stressed the strengthening of resilient health systems, including emergency preparedness, epidemiological surveillance, laboratory capacity, and the approach « Only one health » and the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

The Haitian authorities also recalled the importance of primary health care, qualified human resources, reliable supply chains and robust data systems to sustainably improve the response to health crises.

In addition to the formal sessions, Dr. Boutroce Gally Pierre conducted several bilateral meetings with strategic partners. These exchanges pave the way for future collaborations aimed at strengthening the Haitian health system, in particular in the department of the Great Anse.
