Washington, 22 December 2025.- As the end-of-year celebrations approached, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced an exceptional increase in incentives for voluntary departure. Illegal aliens in the United States who register for the self-expulsion programme through the CBP Home app before 31 December 2025 will be eligible for an allowance of $3,000, a free plane ticket and the cancellation of certain civil sanctions.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is strengthening its voluntary departure policy by offering an unprecedented financial bonus to those in an irregular situation who wish to leave the country without delay. This temporary measure, valid until the end of the year, is part of a strategy to encourage self-expulsion rather than the procedures of arrest and forced eviction.
In concrete terms, the migrants concerned who register via the CBP Home app will receive an allocation of $3,000, in addition to a return trip fully supported by the US authorities. Enrolment in the programme also allows the cancellation of fines or civil penalties related to failure to comply with the obligation to leave the territory.
According to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, this policy has already produced significant results. Since January 2025, 1.9 million people in an irregular situation have voluntarily left the United States, including tens of thousands through CBP Home. For the holidays, she said, the financial incentive is exceptionally tripled, but remains strictly limited in time.
The DHS presents self-expulsion as a quick, free and simplified procedure, based only on the download of the application and the transmission of personal information, the administration then taking over all the logistics of the return. Conversely, the authorities warn that those who do not benefit from this offer are subject to arrest, forced eviction and a definitive ban on return to the United States.
