Meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 in Port-au-Prince, the Haitian Executive and the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) have taken a new step in the preparations for the next elections. Discussions focused on the electoral decree, the financing of the process and the security guarantees needed for a credible election. Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also announced a forthcoming meeting with security sector actors, including the Gang Repression Force (GRF), to facilitate the development of the electoral calendar.

The Haitian government and the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) held a strategic working session on the advancement of the electoral process. At the centre of the exchanges were the review of the electoral decree and the funding mechanisms for the forthcoming popular consultations.

According to the authorities, the two institutions share the same will to strengthen institutional stability, consolidate national unity and create the necessary conditions for the organization of transparent, inclusive and democratic elections.

At this meeting, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé reaffirmed his administration's commitment to mobilize all the resources of the State in order to guarantee the holding of the election in the best possible conditions. The Head of Government stressed respect for popular sovereignty and republican norms as the foundation of the electoral process.

Aware of the ongoing security challenges in several parts of the country, the Prime Minister announced the upcoming coordination meeting with key security actors, including the Gang Repression Force (GRF).

The aim of this initiative is to strengthen the electoral security system and provide the CEP with the information necessary to finalize its draft electoral calendar, which is seen as a crucial step in the organisation of elections.

The Executive and the CEP agreed to continue their technical work at a forthcoming session. On that occasion, the Provisional Electoral Council should present its draft electoral calendar, which was expected to clarify the different deadlines for the democratic process.

Through this approach, the two institutions reaffirm their willingness to lead the country towards elections in a climate of stability, national cohesion and citizen confidence.
