Pétion-ville, August 9, 2026.- On Saturday, August 8, 2026, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) published a list of 15 political groups approved for the next elections. These groups bring together a total of 208 political parties. Of the 18 groups registered with the electoral institution, 15 obtained a favourable opinion. The other three have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday 11 August to regularize their situation.
The CEP decision marks a new stage in the electoral process. The institution specifies that the list of registered groups is published in accordance with article 129 of the Electoral Decree of 2 June 2026.
The 15 approved groups:
- SOLEY, representative: Edouard Wadner, 13 parties.

With 52 political parties, VIKTWA is the largest group of 15 registered parties. It is followed by SOLEY, Coppos-Haiti and Allied and MYÈL, with 13 parties each.
Absences noticed
The publication of this list also highlights the absence of several well-known political formations in the Haitian political scene. These include EDE, PITIT DESSALINES, FANMI LAVALAS and OPL.
These parties are not included in the 15 approved political groups published by the CEP. Their absence is an important element of the political landscape presented by the electoral institution at this stage of the process.
However, the absence of such formations alone does not mean that they are excluded from all stages of the electoral process. The list published by the CEP specifically concerns political groups approved under a procedure referred to in the CEP, which is not an obligation.
A time limit for the three non-approved groups
The CEP states that three of the 18 registered groups did not obtain a favourable opinion. They have until Tuesday 11 August 2026 at 5 p.m. to regularize their situation with the electoral institution.
At the same time, the process of registering political groupings must continue from 10 to 14 August 2026, in accordance with the electoral calendar.
The CEP states that it wants to conduct the process in accordance with the principles of inclusion, impartiality, independence, transparency, integrity and democratic accountability.
With this new stage, the landscape of groups that will participate in the electoral process is beginning to become clearer. The high number of formations gathered within the 15 recognised groups also reflects the desire of several parties to present themselves in common structures.
