Cap-Haitien hosts disaster management assessment workshop in Haiti

Institutional, humanitarian and technical actors are gathered on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 June, in Cap-Haitien, as part of a workshop organized by the Directorate-General for Civil Protection (DGPC) with the support of the World Bank. This meeting is part of a process to assess the country's capacity to respond to natural disasters and to improve emergency response mechanisms.

The exchanges are based on a study of several major crises in Haiti over the past decade, including Hurricane Matthew, the Great South earthquake of 2021 and Hurricane Melissa. The analysis examines the mechanisms deployed during these events in order to identify the progress made, but also the difficulties that continue to affect the coordination and effectiveness of interventions.

Through this exercise, participants are seeking ways to improve the national risk and disaster management system. The expected conclusions should help guide future disaster preparedness and response strategies in a country that is regularly confronted with large-scale natural hazards.
